Fukushima IlluminationName: Hikari Shizuku Illumination

Area: Fukushima City

Address: Paseo Street in Fukushima City

Details: This event is one of the main illuminations in Fukushima City. 200,000 lights will illuminate Paseo Street during December and January. This illumination has occurred annually since 2007 and is a signal of the winter holidays to the people who live there.

Iwaki IlluminationName: Iwaki Sakura Festival

Details: During December and January, the trees that line the streets in front of Iwaki station will be illuminated. This illumination is meant to recall the memories of another festival, the Midnight Cherry Tree festival in Tomioka.

Nihonmatsu Flag FestivalName: Kihata Flag Festival

Area: Nihonmatsu

Details: 100 flags and banners will be displayed at the Kihata Culture Center on Sunday, December 4th. This festival is one of Japan’s few flag and banner festivals, and promises to feature many different flags, banners, and pennants. The festival runs from 9 AM to 3:40 PM.

Abukumado IlluminationName: Abukuma Caves Illumination

Area: Tamura City

Address: Abukuma Caves

Details: For the third year in a row, Abukuma Caves will be illuminated during December, January, and February. The illumination is meant to make the observer feel as though they are among the stars in outer space. The illumination will be up until the end of February, but there will be an opening ceremony on December 4th.

Yanaizu Naked Man FestivalName: Yanaizu Naked Man Festival

Abukumado ConcertName: Abukuma Caves Concerts

Area: Tamura City

Date: January 7th (Saturday) – January 8th (Sunday)

Details: While the weather outside may be cold and snowy, the Abukuma caves stay at a steady temperature of about 15 degrees Celsius year-round, making them the perfect place to see a concert in January. The relative warmth of the caves combined with the music against the backdrop of the limestone formations means that this is a concert you won’t want to miss! There will be four concerts over the course of the two days: from 11:00-11:30 AM and 1:30-2:00 PM on both Saturday and Sunday.

MIharu Daruma FestivalName: Miharu Daruma Festival

Area: Miharu

Details: On January 15th, daruma will line the streets of Miharu to bring luck for the coming year. Visitors to the festival can buy their own daruma, or just observe the different shapes and sizes of the daruma displayed along the street.
