Name: Odaka Volunteer Day

Details: After the 2011 disaster Odaka town in the Minami soma region was one of the most heavily affected areas, now six years later, efforts are still being made to recover and helping to allow people to return to their home. The day’s work can range from anything from cutting grass and raking to chopping down trees. Rain or shine, volunteers from all over the prefecture and even as far as Tokyo come together once a month. If you have a free day, come join, you can even enjoy the discounted onsen after.

Name: Tadami Furusato Snow Festival

Date: Saturday February 10th – Sunday February 11th

Area: Minamiaizu

Details: You don’t have to go all the way to Sapporo to enjoy a snow festival. In the area of our prefecture that gets some of the most snow, you can enjoy looking at snow sculptures, performances on stage, food stalls and fireworks, all in one place. Did I mention fireworks? Because you get two nights of them. There is also a photo contest.

Name: Shinobu Sanzan Akatsuki

Date: Saturday February 10th – Sunday February 11th

Area: Fukushima city

Time: Departure at 9:00 am on Saturday.

Address: 福島県福島市御山地内

Details: Did you ever wonder where the 12 m, 2 ton straw sandal rests when not used for the festival in July, well now you can witness it being carried up to the shrine on top of Mt. Shinobu and pray for good rice harvest, healthy homes and strong body. You should continue to do this for 3 years so that your love becomes strong, so they say.

Name: Snow and Fire Festival

Date: Saturday February 10th

Area: Mishima Machi

Time: 12:00 pm – 7:30 pm

Details: Enjoy this traditional festival filled that celebrates and prays for good harvests and a year of good fortune. There will be snow and fire (in the form of both fireworks and actual fire) as well as Taiko performances.

Name: Shirakawa Daruma Ichi Festival

Date: Sunday February 11th

Area: Shirakawa

Time: 9:00 am – 7:30 pm

Address: Shirakawa, Nakamachi

Details: You get a daruma doll, you get a daruma doll, everybody gets a daruma doll! With more than 700 hundred stalls selling food and yes, daruma dolls there should be something interesting for everyone in this festival. Get a doll,  color in one eye and make a wish or a goal, when and if it comes true color in the other eye.
