Details: On February 4th and 5th, visitors to Kitakata will be able to try seven different varieties of soba from all over Japan. The festival goes from 10 AM to 4 PM both days and costs 600 yen per bowl of soba.

Iwaki Hanging Decorations FestivalName: Iwaki Hanging Decorations Festival

Area: Iwaki

Details: Every year, the people of this small town in Iwakai get together to hang the colorful paper decorations they have made to bring color and livelihood back to the town. This event has been taking place for more than 100 years and features a tea ceremony on Sunday to celebrate Hina Matsuri (Girls’ Day).

Details: The area surrounding the castle in Aizu-Wakamatsu will be illuminated by painted candles (an Aizu specialty) during this two-day festival. The candle-lighting will start at 5 PM and the festival will last until 9 PM both nights. Admission to the event is free.

Details: As one of the areas in Fukushima prefecture with the most snow, the town of Tadami boasts the prefecture’s largest snow festival. The festival will run from 10 AM to 8:30 PM both days and will feature a wide variety of events and attractions, from a fireworks display to a snow mikoshi to a dance performances.

Details: Kitakata city boasts some of the best ramen in Japan, so it is only fitting that they would have a ramen festival featuring various types of ramen from six different ramen shops. The ramen festival will take place at the Kitakata Plaza cultural center from 10 AM to 8 PM on Saturday and from 9 AM to 4 PM on Sunday. Each bowl of ramen costs 600 yen, plus extra for toppings.

Ouchijuku Snow FestivalName: Ouchi-juku Snow Festival

Area: Shimogo Town

Date: February 11th (Saturday) and 12th (Sunday)

Details: The annual Ouchi-juku snow festival will occur on February 11th and 12th this year. The festival will feature a soba-eating contest, fireworks, and song performances over the course of the two day event.
