The Lucky Island Events October 2018

Pardon the delay, all: October came in like a lion, and everything went from 0 to 60. However, there’s still plenty to do this month. Autumn has finally begun, despite the still warm temperatures across the prefecture and humid, rainy days. If you’re still looking for a way to beat the weakening heat, why not try to have fun while doing it with some new events!

This post will update as new events come in, so be sure to check back to see what all you can get up to this month in Fukushima!

Ongoing Events

Name: Nihonmatsu Chrysanthemum Festival

Date: October 10th – November 25th

Area:  Nihonmatsu 

Time: 9:00 to 16:00

Price: 700 yen for adults, 500 yen for persons with disabilities, free for middle school and younger; They also offer a group rate of 600 per groups of 20 or more

Details: See the lovely Kasumi Castle alongside thousands of chrysanthemums at the legendary Nihonmatsu Chrysanthemum Festival in its 64th year! Here, you can enjoy both a day time and night view of the flowers, along with festival treats and You can access the castle via car or by train. It is a 20 minute walk from Nihonmastu Station.

Name: Ladle Delicacy Festival

Date: October 21, 2018

Area: Otama Village

Price: Unlisted, so assumably, free entry with costs inside

Details: Eat your fill in blissful Otama Village! The easiest way to access this area is via a vehicle, so consider rentals or carpooling so that you enjoy this luxurious event! Additionally, there’s dozens of different dairy products, alongside different meats, for you to buy, including Otama’s own perilla pork!


Name: BBQ, FMX, and Nature!

Date: October 21, 2018

Area: Samegawa (Kennan)

Time: 9:30  14:00

Price: 2500 yen/person (includes 450g BBQ set of veggies, beef, and pork; utensils and equipment are provided, though you’re encouraged to bring your own food also)

Name:  Goshikinuma Walk

Date: October 21, 2018

Area: Mt. Bandai and Goshiku Numa (Bandai-Kogen)

Time: 10:00 – 13:00

Price: Free! (Transport at your own cost)

Details: Autumn is here so why not soak in all the nature around us at the famed Goshikinuma Lakes, a series of vivid lakes formed after last volcanic eruption of Mt. Bandai during the late 19th century. Take a luxurious 90 minute walk around in your coziest sweaters and toughest shoes on the easy, relaxed paths and then, spend time with others over a good, hot meal at the end of it! Details: Want to expand your cooking skills at any levels? Well, this is the class for you! Meet new friends and enjoy two different traditional Japanese recipes that will make Autumn all the better! Name: Hittin’ The Spirit Reunion Jazz concert
